8th Entry

I think that its a good idea to use collaborative lessons in my curriculum but its important to make sure that they actually have a purpose. I remember only doing one collaborative project in high school and it was a complete failure and we actually stopped working on it and just went on to the next project. I like the idea because it gives students the opportunity to work with others, helping them with there communication skills.
I think the other advantages of using collaborative is the ability of teamwork. I feel like that we are teaching the students individually so working in collabortive partners I feel that you have the opportunity to learn more about your students through their interactionts with other students and you are able to find out the personalities of your students, getting to see which students are more of the take charge leaders and which students are more of the followers. I also like collabortive becasue it gives students the chance work on projects that are part of something much larger which is important because you are able to show students a sence of more depth or perspective towards art making

I feel that I haven't had that much experience with people with disabilities on really any personal level. The only real experience was during my elementary art ed class our teacher brought in one of his students that he taught at his last school that was disabled. I felt that it was such a beneficial experience to have this person come and sit in the the class and have his be apart of the class community. I felt like having this student allowed for good experience in how to teach students with disabilities and it gave good experience in situations were you as the teacher tend to forget about these studetnts. I remember this one time when in class we were practicing teaching our lessons in a class simulation, and the teacher stopped this one group because this student who is in a wheel chair wasnt able to see, it was something that no one really noticed during but after the teacher made it a point it was something that wasnt forgotten.
I think this experience is important for my teaching because i makes me become noticeably more aware of handicapped students and more aware of the little things that these students need help with because of their limitations and its easy to let these students drift to the back of the class and most likely these students arent going to say anything so its important to be aware of their needs from the beginning.

I think when dealing with different cultures and their icons its important to first have the students learn the history of that culture in order to gain the basis of the distinguishing features as well as what they means to this culture. I also think if you dont want students to copy, you have to make the lessons more open for students interpertation, that way students wont be so focused on trying to copy the icon, instead will be able to take different features or characteristics that embody that culture and use it in their own art. I think its important to show many different examples when working with different cultures and their icons, in order to help students gain ideas and being able to brainstorm them.
If a student wanted to include images that were not school appropriate I would most likely have that student stay after class and explain to them that they cant use those images because of the school policies. I would encourage the student to look for another image that is school appropriate. I encourage students to push limits and boundries but regardless this is your job and you have to follow the school rules.

5th entry

If I had a student who came to me looking for someone to confide in about their sexual orientation I would what to make sure I gave my complete attention, really listening to what this student has to say before giving any advice. I would want the student to feel comfortable and know that what they say to me stays confidential to me. I would let the student know that my door is always open if they need someone to talk to. This is such a vulnerble stage and you as the teacher really need to be careful what you say because if a student would actually come to you as their teacher for such an issue i think this really shows how much this student thinks of you and most likely shows how much your advice will mean.
For the artroom i think its important to set rules at the beginning of class. I know some teachers have the students make out the list of rules for the class at the beginning of the semesters. I like this because it gives the students more ownership for the class and their set guidelines. As the teacher its important to let the students know that the artroom is like their own community and show that they are able to express themselve individually however suits them.

I feel that the key components to a drawing curriculum should incorporate different contour drawing and other drawing exerises to really help the students become more comfortable with their skills. The other thing that i feel is valuable for a drawing curriculum is working on perspectives and proportions. I feel that students dont really look at what they are trying to draw and their proportions look wrong and they become very discourages and they start to doubt their abilities and leave the arts and dont continue with it anymore but if they would just sit there and just study the object they would be much better off and feel like they do have ability to create art. I think the balance of naturalistic to abstract comes from how you as the teacher present both styles to your students but i think you need to start of with the naturalistic style and then move to the more abstract lessons once your students gain confidence in thier own abilities.

Third Entry

I feel that my identity from when i was in high school to the person that i am today has changed dramatically. I think it would be a shame to not have a part of you as a person changed from then until now. Your given a taste of indepedence and freedom from the life that you have known for 18 years, living with your parents and having them take care of your needs to living on your own making your own decisions. Another way that my identity has changed is through the friends that i associate with. I grew up in a small town and wasnt exposed or around people that didnt grow up that same way that i did with the quote un quote "Midwestern Values". I also feel that as i get older my identity changes with exceptant of myself also the need to not need to impress others, as compared to how high school was.
I feel that my artwork has changed from high school to know because the way that i think and feel has changed. Another reason is throught the art classes that i take here in college compared to high school. The classes here in college are alot more challenging and really require you as an artist to look more into yourself compared to in high school were i feel i was so worried on making everything look exactly like what it was that i was drawing or whatever.

2nd blog

I think that my practices as an artist will help as a teacher in my classroom because it allows me to connect with my students because we both can share in some common ground of looking for ways to be creative and unique. I think we can both share in the struggles that all artist have when comming up with different ways to solving projects.
I feel that the skills that are learned are very important in communicating. As a student or teacher we need to explain what we are trying to get across to our audience and explain it through step by step processes of how we came up with the idea of inspiration all the way to the final end product which is what we will show as the final solved problem.
I think it is important to try to incorporate my own work into the class but I dont think that you should really be concerned with showing much of it. I think it is important to show your creativness and being able to explain how you came up with th ideas but I feel from my own experience that if you show your work students will try to immulate what you did because you are the teacher and what you did must be the right way so I feel that showing your work should be done carefully and only when it really needed.
I feel that i will continue to make art mostly on my free time but like in the RWR's they talked about how the teacher would do the assignments along with the students and how this was affective and gave the students confidence in there own work as well as ideas to build from. It is important to continue to make art even after you are teacher because it allows your students to see that you as a more than just a teacher as well as allows you as a person to continue to grow as an artist as well as a person.
Vieth characterizes the relationship between teaching and art making art as a experience that is meaningful and enriching to you as well as your students. He talks about how this connection gives the students the opportunity to share insights, skills, knowledge but he explains that it should be dynamic experience for the students that will shape them beyond the classroom.
I think it is important that students learn the technical skills inorder for them to have the skills necessary to be able create art through any realm. Once they have learned the skills I feel that will be better suited to explore my dynamice projects that requires them to be more creative.
